The ACT Magistrates Court hears most everyday criminal matters and smaller civil claims in Canberra, and the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory hears the larger and more serious ones: the Territory has no intermediate court. Renting and bond disputes, guardianship and many licensing matters go to the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal, and a disputed rental bond reaches that tribunal by referral from the Office of Rental Bonds, which holds the bond and does not decide the dispute itself. Family law matters are filed in the Canberra registry of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.
